Background. The diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumor is very important considering, first of all, the differentiation between neuroendocrine tumor (NET) which has a good prognosis compared to neuroendocrine carcinomas (NEC) which have a poor prognosis and most cases require adjuvant therapy. Objective of the study. The aim of this paper is to highlight the immunohistochemical examination in the early and differential diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumors (NET) in the gastrointestinal tract, in order to apply appropriate therapeutic management. Material and Methods. The studied material is represented by 10 cases of neuroendocrine tumors, diagnosed by biopsy and surgicaly in the Department of Pathology SCR Timofei Mosneaga. It was used the classic histological technique and stained: H-E and Alcian Blue / PAS. Immunohistochemical reactions were performed using antibodies Chromogranin A, Synaptophysin, PCK, Ki67, NSE, CD56, CD20, BCL2, CK20. Results. The markers expression of Cromogranin A, Synaptophysin, NSE, CD56, PCK and Ki67 allows the establishment of the differential diagnosis between neuroendocrine tumors as well as other tumor pathologies to allow the application of a correct therapeutic tactic. Conclusion: The macroscopic examination and the usual histological staining with hematoxylin and eosin are not sufficient to establish a diagnosis of neuroendocrine tumor. Immunohistochemical tests establish with certainty the diagnosis of these tumors. |
