Maternity is being studied from the perspective of various sciences, more recently showing its scientific interest for the multilateral studying of the maternal behavior. The manifestation of the maternal behavior and the maternal instinct, their complex structure and their own way of development, the multitude of their cultural and individual aspects, make it possible to analyze the importance and the influence of these phenomena on the further development of the child. According to the researches, the maternal behavior is formed being influenced by the social environment, biological and psychological factors; and the experience of a woman related to the interaction with her own mother has a significant impact on the formation of the maternal qualities and the maternal instinct.

Maternitatea este studiată din perspectiva diverselor științe, mai recent, făcându-și apariția interesul științific legat de studierea multilaterală al comportamentului matern. Manifestarea comportamentului matern și al sentimentului matern, structura complexă al acestora și calea lor de dezvoltare, multitudinea aspectelor culturale și individuale specifice, fac posibilă analiza importanței și al influenței acestor fenomene asupra dezvoltării ulterioare ale copilului. Cercetările realizate în domeniu au confirmat, în mod sigur, că formarea comportamentului matern este influențată semnificativ de mediul social, factori biologici și psihologici, iar experiența femeii legată de interacțiunea cu propria mamă are un impact semnificativ asupra formării calităților materne și al sentimentului matern, propriu-zis.
