The article discusses 5-years data (collected in 2002-2006) on increase of trunk cross-sectional area and yield efficiency of apple cultivars. The observations were carried out at the orchard planted with the apple cultivars ‘Antey’ and ‘Telisaare’ on the clonal rootstocks 54-118 and 62-396 in spring, 1992. The planting density varied from 833 to 2665 trees per ha. The cultivar-rootstock combination of ‘Antey’ on the rootstock 62-396 appeared to be the most productive (47.4-51.7 t per ha) with the spacings (4+1) x 1.5 m and 4 x 1.5 m, planting density being 1665-2665 trees per ha. The maximum trunk cross-sectional area was observed in the spacing variant of 4 x 3 m with planting density 833 trees per ha (43.962.0 cm3). |
