The mortality caused by road traffic injuries is a public health problem that is spread worldwide, which has a negative social and economic impact on affected persons, their families and the country as a whole. In March 2010 the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2011-2020 the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety. It was found that mortality caused by road traffic injuries correlates with the level of income per capita; the lower the income is, the higher rates of mortality are observed. In Moldova, during 30 years, population’s mortality dynamics caused by road traffic injuries have decreased from 25,28 cases per 100.000 inhabitants in 1981 to 11,4 in 2010. At the municipal level the same trend can be observed, but the mortality remains to be higher than in other countries studied. |
