Rezumat

Fusarium oxysporum is considered to be one of the most important fungal pathogens. This species complex comprises of many different formae speciales, which combined infect over a hundred of different hosts and cause severe losses in many crops. F. oxysporum is one of the most frequently detected fungi in soybean seedlings with disease symptoms in production fields in Poland; therefore, it may contribute to fungal infections lowering emergence of this important crop. The aim of this study was to determine an effect of F. oxysporuminoculation on soybean seedlingsbelonging to seven cultivars bred by AgeSoya: Annushka, Atlanta, Lajma, Madlen, Mavka, Smuglyanka and Violetta.F. oxysporumisolate used for the inoculation tests was obtained from the Polish Bank of Plant Pathogens and multiplied on PDA medium. Two-week old fungal cultures were placed on sterile soil with 5% addition of barley groats. After four weeks of incubation, such inoculation mixture was spread over disinfected soybean seeds placed on top of sterile soil. The experiment was carried out in a climate chamber(humidity 90%, temperature 15-18oC). Five weeks after inoculation, plant development and disease symptoms were recorded and fungal isolates were obtained from the tissues with disease symptoms. Tested soybean cultivars differed in their susceptibility to F. oxysporum. Most of individuals of cv. Madlen showed severe symptoms such as large brown spots on stem baseand on some roots. A half of plants belonging to cv. Atlanta, Mavka and Violetta showed spots on roots. In case of Mavka and Smuglyanka stem base and roots were equally affected by the disease while Lajma and Madlen had symptoms mainly on stems. The least susceptible cultivar appeared to be Lajma because 70% of seedlingsof this cultivar showed no disease symptoms.Mycological and molecular analysis of the obtained fungal isolates confirmed that the disease symptoms observed on the experimental plants were caused by F. oxysporum.
