Rezumat | ||||||
Adolescence is a time of great changes and vulnerabilities. Particularly, adolescence is a stress-sensitive period of development. Thus, assessing the ability to bounce back from stress becomes for professionals who work with adolescents in different contexts. This research aims at reviewing the psychosocial factors of resilience in adolescence. Resilience is a person’s capacity to adapt to stress; it is the dynamic process of overcoming adversity and trauma, while maintaining normal functioning of physical and psychological systems. Recent studies have identified the mechanism underlying its development and the predictors of vulnerability to stress: genetic, epigenetic, developmental, psychosocial. The research data revealed the optimism, active coping style, cognitive flexibility, an internal belief system, prosocial behavior, social support are some of the psychosocial factors that contribute significantly in resilience in adolescence. The research pleads for a preventive intervention in childhood and adolescence, in school or familial settings can contribute to building resilience from an early age, can facilitate recovery after difficult experiences or can lead to achieving the maximum potential development of an individual. |
