The pension system is an essential part of a country's socio-economic model. A strong public pension system is essential for solidarity between generations and for social cohesion in our societies. The primary objective of the pension system is to guarantee pensioners a decent living standard and not just a minimum income / survival. For this to be possible, the system should be economically sustainable and the appropriate benefits provided. Demographic forecasts cast doubt on the possibilities of paying old-age pensions, at the same time endangering the stability and credibility of the whole system: the small number of people employed will not be able to cope with the large number of pensioners, which is steadily rising. This article aims to analyze the state of the public pension system for a period of 11 years, using statistical indicators reflecting the sustainability of the pension system in the Republic of Moldova.
