The article presents the results of study the ideas of fifth graders about friend. The sabjects were 52 fifth graders (30 girl and 22 boys). In the study, it was revealed that by the concept of «friend» modern fifth graders mean a faithful person, whom they trust, ready to help. It was also revealed that girls are more likely to view friendship from the point of view of emotions, and boys - from the point of view of role self-realization. It was revealed that the choice of a friend is not determined by his popularity among peers and his academic performance. The study of the reasons that become the reason for the termination of friendship supplemented the data obtained. They become betrayal, lies and insults.
