In the article "Representatives of the colonial elite among large landowners in Bessarabia, XIX – beginning of XX century: George Ivanovich Tsanko-Kilchik (1852 – 1924)" is presented life and activities of a famous person, the largest Bessarabian landowner, entrepreneur, one of the richest people in the south of Russia, philanthropist George Ivanovich TsankoKilchika, who was a native Gagauz-Bulgarian. The article is based on archival materials and other historical sources. The special fact about this article is that the author has studied and recreated genealogical tree of Tsanko-Kilchik family, using previously unknown sources and the introduction of new documents. It is known that George Ivanovich Tsanko-Kilchik ancestors were immigrants from Bulgaria. Back in 1910, while George Ivanovich was yet among living, Yov Titorov has published short book by the title "George Ivanovich Tsanko-Kilchik from Comrat, Bessarabia". George Ivanovich Tsanko-Kilchyk founded and sponsored Comrat school and feminine lyceum in Comrat. He built churches, donated finances for students, teachers, helped medical institutions in Bulgaria and has also established a special fund to help students from Bessarabia. George Ivanovich Tsanko-Kilchik was awarded with state awards in Bulgaria and in Russia, by the title of "hereditary honorary citizen" for great achievements in charity and the development of that region |
