In the summer of 2014, a group of specialists of the National Agency of Archaeology, when visiting a school museum of the Călmăţui commune, Hîncesti district, has seen in the exposition a narrow-necked, produced of light clay, Roman amphora in a good condition. We learned that the vessel was found incidentally in the second half of the 60s of the last century, when plowing arable land, at a distance of about 1.1 kilometers north-northwest from the northwestern margin of the Călmăţui commune and about 1 km east-northeast of the neighboring Feteasca village (comm. Leuşeni) of the same district. From the topographical point of view, this area is a plateau about 100 m above the sea level. It is possible that the Roman amphora of the Pontic origin, dated by II century AD., comes from a small mound or, more precisely, from a tumular tomb destroyed by agricultural works. |
