Rezumat | ||||||
During the Austrian dominion in Bucovina had functioned few secondary
schools with real profile, the most important being the Orthodox Real Superior School of Chernivtsi. It was established in 1864, after a long period of negotiations, and was supported almost entirely by Bucovina Orthodox Church Fund. However, the language of instruction at this school was German, Romanian being taught to Romanian students. Although the school was financed by the Orthodox Church, most teachers were Catholics or of other denominations. Being a province with a predominantly agricultural economy, education of realistic profile in Bukovina has developed not as much as in other Austrian, most industrialized, provinces, situated in west of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. |
