Autoarea articolului îşi pune drept scop de a compara două şi cele mai frecvent vorbite limbi germanice - engleza şi germana, prezentând deosebirile şi asemănările acestora. În prima parte a articolului, cititorul este familiarizat cu gramatica celor două descendente ale germanei de vest, în timp ce în a doua şi în ultima parte a articolului, autoarea se încumetă să reducă evoluţia ulterioară analitică a morfologiei engleze la o reînviere a tendinţelor prenormande.

The author of the present paper takes it upon herself to compare the two most widely spoken representatives of Germanic languages – English and German – and expose their contrasts and similarities. The first section takes the reader crosswise through the grammar of the two descendants from West Germanic, whereas in the second and final one the author ventures to put the subsequent analytically-based evolution of English morphology down to a resurrection of pre-Norman tendencies as established by Scandinavian tribes, with concomitant assumption of the following preconditions: a growing tendency of plebeians – induced by the Norman Retreat, in all probability – to gradually fence in the Frenchspeaking aristocracy, which came as a natural reaction against the posh sophisticated French morphology they had to put up with for two solid centuries, and which, most important of all, helped restore the English language to its former official position.
