Northeast Romania faces exceptional phenomena caused by the floods from the beginning of the spring, generated by the melting of snow and the start of torrential rains. These events threaten every year most of the river basins, both large and small and medium in size. This is also the case of Podriga river basin, which is a small basin and is subject to a continuous flood risk. The Podriga river is a left tributary of the Başeu river and its hydrographic basin is the largest from the whole Baseu river basin. Based on flow rates with an insurance of 1%, 5% and 10%, calculated by regional authorities, 3 flood bands were generated using HEC-RAS an open-source software. Based on flood bands extent and land use polygons, the flooded areas were extracted. The land use was generated manually using orthophoto 2015 edition. As a final step, a comparison was made between the affected areas from HEC-RAS limits and the affected areas generated by regional authorities. |
