Rezumat

Major changes in Moldovan society have recently begun to reflect the consequences of ageing on various population groups, including senior citizens. The proportion of people aged 65 and over increased between 2014 and 2020 from 10.9% to 14.4%. Self-esteem, becomes a stable indicator in ensuring the social adaptation of seniors in social life. This term is among the terms “self-esteem” and “self-confidence”, which originate in the formation of the “I-ness” of each personality, which is built, internalised and strengthened only through interaction with other members of society. The reason for choosing this topic of study is the often discriminatory opinion of society towards older people who are treated with more negative values and at the same time have low self-esteem and an unsatisfactory opinion of the life they live. The correlation self-esteem - self-esteem - self-confidence, forms a terminological triangulation, which permanently complement each other, becoming decisive in the exposition of the object of research. The group of senior interviewees (31) participated in a semi-structured interview in March-May 2021, having the opportunity to express their opinion on the topics: who is responsible for the care of the elderly; how they feel in today’s society; to assess their level of happiness; to offer recommendations, etc., based on the interviews applied the following answers were obtained: passive person (with low/negative self-esteem) or active person (with positive self-esteem), the intermediate or medium variant (with neutral self-esteem) was also selected.
