Une recherche sur l’identité nous permet d’entrer dans le domaine sociolinguistique et social de la communication virtuelle et d’étudier qualitativement le discours des francophones sur la francophonie, aussi bien institutionnelle que linguistique. A notre avis, cette démarche permettrait de faire valoir la dimension discursive, interactionnelle et sociale de la Toile en tant qu’outil de (auto)publication, mais aussi de mieux cerner le concept d’«identité sociale», francophone en l’occurrence. C’est également une occasion privilégiée pour observer la vision que les utilisateurs peuvent avoir des bonnes ou des mauvaises façons de pratiquer une langue: la construction des représentations.

A research on identity allows us to come within reach of the sociolinguistic and social domain of virtual communication and to study thoroughly the discourse of the francophones on Francophonie both institutionally and linguistically. In our opinion, this approach enables us to assess the discursive, the interactional and the social dimension of the Web both in terms of tool for (self-)publishing and in terms of a better portrayal of the concept of “social identity”, in this case francophone. It is also an excellent opportunity to observe that Internet users may have some good or bad ways of language practice: the creation of representations.
