Saphenous nerve and its lesions after stripping of great saphenous vein
Many patients undergo a stripping operation, saphenous nerve injury is a significant postoperative complication. Symptoms of nerve injury sometimes continue for a long time, and are thus not negligible. Lesions of saphenous nerve is characterized with the triad of anesthesia, hyperesthesia, and pain along the medial side of the calf and foot to the level of the great toe. The anatomical relationship between the saphenous nerve and the great saphenous vein is varied and the two structures run close to each other so a better knowledge of their anatomy in itself proved insufficient in preventing damage to the saphenuos nerve. |
