In a multipolar and complex world, it is easier and more efficient to divide it into civilizations in order to understand and to analyze the political and geopolitical processes. The borders of the civilization are not stable, they are flexible. The countries situated near these frontiers have to stand to a lot of problems, mainly identity ones. Republic of Moldova is situated between the Eastern and Western civilizations and it is marked by the transdniestrian conflict, a geopolitical conflict
in which the interests of the West (Europe and The United States of America)
clashes with Russia’s interests. This situation entails problems in the political, economic and cultural life. Therefore this internal context generates permanent oscillations in the foreign policy of the country. On the other hand the population tends to duality and polarity that regards their identity selfdefinition – fact confirmed by many polls. To overcome this identity crisis and to make back into the big European family, it is necessary to elaborate and implement explicit and stable European policies. |
