Rezumat

According to the data presented by the World Health Organization (https://www.who.int/health-topics/obesity), starting from 1975 and until now, the number of obese people in the world has increased three times, worryingly especially the fact that there are approximately 40 million children under the age of 5 who, in 2020, exceeded the overweight diagnosis. From an etiological perspective, there are many causes that can lead to obesity, but it is clear that chronic overconsumption plays a fundamental role. When this type of overeating becomes compulsive, it is often classified as "food addiction," a label that has caused much clinical and scientific controversy. Childhood obesity is known to increase the risk of morbid obesity in adulthood, and the risks are extremely serious. Medical problems, such as: diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive problems and implicitly, the reduction of life expectancy, can appear over time, at younger and lower ages. On a psycho-social level, depression, social and professional exclusion, isolation, maladjustment, bullying, suicidal ideation or attempts appear. Obesity is a global health problem, and affected people require the intervention of multidisciplinary treatment teams in the field of mental health and even surgery bariatric.
