Background. Brain metastases are the most common and devastating neurological complications of systemic cancer. Therapeutic management of patients with brain metastases depends on the location and number of brain lesions, the biology of the primary tumor and the extent of the disease. Objective of the study. Assessment of the peculiarities of diagnosis and treatment of patients with brain metastases. Material and Methods. The research was carried out on a group of 48 patients, who were diagnosed and treated in the research was performed on a group of 48 patients, who were diagnosed and treated in the IMSP Oncological Institute of the Republic of Moldova, Medical Oncology Sections 1, 2 and 3, Radiotherapy Sections 1, 2 and 3 with brain metastases, during the years 2017 -2022. Results. Lung cancer is the most common rate of brain metastasis in men - 27 patients (81, 82%) followed by prostate cancer - 6 patients (18.18%), and ranks second in frequency in women - 6 patients (40%), after breast cancer - 9 patients (60%). For the diagnosis of brain metastases, brain CT was performed in 100% of cases - 48 patients. Contrast-enhanced MRI was also performed on 3 patients - 6.25%, and MRI brain scan without contrast was performed on 3 patients. In all patients 100% - 48, the primary focus was histologically confirmed. All patients underwent chemotherapy, in only 3 cases - 6.25%, stereotaxic radiosurgery was performed, in 6 cases chemotherapy was combined with radiotherapy, and 9 patients - 18.75% had surgical treatment with ablation of the volume process in the brain associated with chemotherapy. Schemes of chemotherapeutic treatment were established according to the National Clinical Protocol after the location of the primary tumor. Conclusion. Computer tomography is a major diagnostic tool in the evaluation of brain tumors. Surgery plays an important role in the management of brain metastases and serves as the main therapeutic approach. |
