Pavel Shillingovsky was born in Chisinau, Bassarabia (February 16nd, 1881); he died in Leningrad (April 5th, 1942), painter. Shilingovski studied at the School of Fine Arts of Odessa (1896-
1900) and at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts from Saint Petersburg (1900-1914). He was an important figure of the Russian „Mir iscusstva”, always expressing an increased interest and talent in pictures. In 1947, following the last will of Pavel
Shillingovsky, professor of the Academy of Fine Arts from Saint Petersburg, a large collection of graphic works of European and Russian masters of the 17th-19th centuries, as well as his own works, have been donated to Chisinau. |
