One of the main factors contributing to the economic growth of a country is in thet present the development of the regions as an important "actor" of the economic and social markets at the level of world economies. Regional development is a current, real process that requires knowledge, analysis, diagnosis and can be interpreted statistically. The purpose of this paper is to present a theoretical presentation on the notion of region and regional development, conceptual aspects achieved over time by various authors from several fields of activity with impact on the macroeconomic competitiveness.
