The military element was present plentifully in the territory between the Prut and Nistru rivers during the First World War. Beside the permanent quartered military units in Bessarabia, those which were leaving or returning from the front also were brought here. Basically, the Russian army supplies from available resources in this territory. The servicemen influenced by the revolutionary ideology and particularly by the Bolshevik gave to rampancy and anarchy. Another element that influenced the local political and socio-economic life was the conscription of Basarabians, ordnance and equipment in the Russian army. The war was a disaster, a social and economic catastrophe for the population of the Bessarabian territory |
