Rezumat

In Romania, territorial development differences have historical, cultural and economic explanations. The industrialization process, developed during the communist period, the structural changes that occurred during transition to market economy, and the effects of the financial-economic crisis have long-term impact on regional development disparities. Weak economic performances are determined by a multitude of factors, among which the quantitative and qualitative dimension of human resource is one of utmost importance. At the same time, between labor market imbalances and regional gaps there is a closely linked relationship, both unfolding in an extremely complex environment, dominated by variable factors and uncertainty. The paper presents an analysis of the employment phenomena related to labor force and unemployment in regional profile. The functional relationship between the development level and the employment and unemployment processes was particularized. At the same time, the differences and gaps were highlighted between Romania’s development regions regarding labor force employment and unemployment as arguments for improving regional development policies and for diminishing the existing economic gaps at the level of certain regions by adequate training and development of human resources.
