Background. Erection involves several aspects, especially vascular. The etiological diagnosis of an erectile dysfunction requires the study of the vascularization of the penis. Eco-doppler is fast, noninvasive and effective, providing information about the morphological aspects of the vessels. Objective of the study. Appreciation of the importance of using Doppler ultrasonography in detecting vascular problems that lead to erectile dysfunction and its use in differential diagnosis with other causes of erectile dysfunction. Material and Methods. The literature review was performed by analyzing articles from the MEDLINE, Hinari databases. The words used as a search engine were: penile vascularization, doppler ultrasonography, erectile dysfunction. Only full-text articles were analyzed. Results. Vidal Moreno reports that subjects without vascular disease showed arterial dilation after intracavernous injection, with thin and parallel walls, subjects with arteriogenic problems had thickened walls, inhomogeneous lumen. Yafi FA states that failure to achieve maximum erection using intracavenous injections is a sign of the veno-occlusive cause. He ZJ, Cheng M show shows 49.88% with arteriogenic ED, 34.70% with venogenic ED, arterial insufficiency prevails in older patients Golubinski showed insufficient arterial vessels in a quarter of men, venous discharge in 15%. Ismail in one reports over 50% of venoocclusive problems in patients up to 40 years. Conclusion. Doppler ultrasonography is a safe method in assessing erectile dysfunction. It demonstrates that arterial insufficiency is prevalent in elderly patients, while veno-occlusive dysfunction is characteristic of young people. |
