Reluate în anul 2017, cercetările de la Gumelniţa (jud. Călăraşi), situl eponim al civilizaţiei eneolitice, s-au concentrat (pe lângă cele din aşezarea tell propriu-zisă şi zona din afara acesteia) şi asupra necropolei locuitorilor de pe Măgura Gumelniţa, până în prezent fiind investigate 10 complexe funerare de inhumaţie. Materialul scheletic din nouă dintre acestea a fost cercetat în anul 2018 şi reprezintă obiectul prezentului studiu. Forma gropilor este ovală, scheletele fiind orientate, în general, cu capul la est. Indivizii au fost depuşi în poziţie chircită, iar din inventarul funerar fac parte piese din lut, mărgele din Spondylus, aşchii de silex, sau un vas cu perforaţie de tip “pudrieră”. Din punct de vedere antropologic, au fost identificaţi 12 indivizi: doi subadulţi şi 10 adulţi. Sexul a fost determinat în opt cazuri: cinci femei şi trei bărbaţi. Pentru comparaţii cu alte loturi scheletice, analiza antropologică a urmărit şi prelevarea unor date metrice, estimarea staturilor scheletice, consemnarea unor patologii dentare şi osoase sau înregistrarea unui set de caractere epigenetice craniene şi postcraniene.

Resumed in 2017, the researches from Gumelniţa (Călăraşi County), the eponymous site of the Eneolithic civilization, focused (besides the actual tell settlement and off-tell area) on the necropolis of the inhabitants of Măgura Gumelniţa, so far, 10 burial complexes being investigated. The skeletal material in nine of them was investigated in 2018 and is the subject of the present study. The shape of the pits is oval, the skeletons being generally oriented with the head to the east. The individuals were deposited in a crouched position, and the funeral inventory consists in pieces of clay, Spondylus beads, flint chips, or a „powder” type vessel with perforation. From the anthropological point of view, 12 individuals were identified: two subadults and 10 adults. Biological sex was determined in eight cases: five females and three males. For comparisons with other skeletal groups, the anthropological analysis followed the sampling of metric data, the estimation of the skeletal statures, the recording of dental and bone pathologies or the investigation of a set of cranial and postcranial epigenetic traits.
