The staffs of the Church hierarchs of Ancient Russia are important in the Church Liturgy. Considering the staff as an object that personified spiritual power, but also as material evidence that demonstrates the special sanctity of the owner, endowed with a special favor of the Creator. Some staffs of bishops and saints were passed on as a symbol of special power and worship. Special attention should be paid to the staffs of the hierarchs and prelates of North-Western Russia. This is due to the formation of elements of a special tradition of Christianity in the region and active ties with Western Europe.
