Always prepare thoroughly for your conference interpreting, no matter how big experience in this domain you have during the years. The first pillar of quality in conference interpreting is ensuring proper working conditions, and then the second is diligent preparation. The more you can find information and you know about the context, topic, and terminology of the meeting, the better your performance in the booth will be. A conference interpreter needs to have as good knowledge of the terrain as any alpinist while he is going to climb a mountain. Nowadays, when everything is developing so fast, and with the process of globalization, in today’s market, many seminars, conferences are becoming increasingly specialized and technical at the same time, and in the same time they require more and more qualified, specialized interpreters for the meetings. In addition, more qualified, very good prepared interpreters entering the interpretation profession and the competition becomes more and more intense. However, the colleagues, known to prepare their assignment scrupulously are always at the top of recruiters’ lists. Thorough preparation takes time and effort. The interpreter has to make sure that he allocates sufficient time, in order to do the necessary research on the requested topic before the conference. |
