In the study and management of biodiversity, genebanks draw upon a large number of data sources and data types. Passport data are among those that allow grouping access, making core collections or identifying redundancies and gaps in genebank collections. Passport data are the minimum data that should be available for each access to guarantee proper management. The international standards such as the FAO/Bioversity multi-crop passport descriptors should be used to record passport data. The use of internationally agreed standards will facilitate data exchange.Despite the fact that passport data are generally considered important, there are several very serious constraints associated with their use, in particular, incompleteness and error. This situation is also characteristic for the Republic of Moldova. In order to solve this problem various activities were arranged such as control, search, identification, consultation and finally, update of the database. In this context ReGen information system was used that was developed in the Laboratory of Plant Genetic Resources of Moldova. |
