Democracy and human rights are universal values that should be vigorously promoted around the world. They are the cornerstone of inclusive, vibrant societies where all are free to participate in the life of the community. Overcoming the obstacles that perpetuate the violation of these rights is crucial for the respect of human dignity, the fight against poverty, and the prevention and resolution of conflicts. The European Union sees human rights as universal and indivisible. It actively promotes and defends them both within its borders and when engaging in relations with non-EU countries. |
