Rezumat

The article is devoted to the theoretical and historical research of the development and functioning of control in local self-government. A legal analysis of theories and concepts that had the greatest impact on the development of the local self-government institution was conducted in order to find out the types and forms of control of local governments. Outstanding historical forms of control over the activities of local governments as grounds for the formation of modern control in the local in Ukraine. An analysis of the historical development of the control and supervision institute in the system of local self-government in Ukraine confirms that the relative autonomy of local government activities has always been linked by the state with the need for constant control and supervision with the purpose of strict adherence to regulatory requirements and regulations, observance of the interests of individuals, society and the state.
