As transparency is an important element of the open government approach, the oficial web portals are designed to improve the public’s interaction with the government by quickly directing website visitors to the services or information they are seeking, and by inviting the public to share ideas to improve government. The objective of this paper is to illustrate the aspects of the implementation of nation-wide government information portal. The analysis is based upon the theoretical foundations of „e-Transformation strategy” research. Based on this study and the lessons derived form the analysis, we will also try to identify the main success drivers as well as the key issues faced along the path to government portals implementation. The aspects regarding government information portals development are grouped into three key sections: development and functional principles, main advantages and benefits for government and citizens, potential obstacles and risk management.
