The concept of dignity is not a new concept. Therefore, for the roman legal expert Cicero, „dignitas” was in fact the distinctive element of man compared to animals; dignity was the starting point of any ethnic research. The concept of human dignity has been further developed by philosophers. Immanuel Kant stated that „humanity itself is a dignity and indeed, one can not be used by any man (by others, or by himself) only as a means but always be treated as an end in itself, and therein lies his dignity” |
