An important contribution to the construction of the school buildings was made by the school committees set up on July 23, 1919 by a Decree-Law adopted because the state, being in a difficult financial situation in terms of its own means , could no longer meet all the requirements of education. A mobilizing role in this process was held by the Congress of School Committees representatives in Bucharest on July 5-7, 1924. As a result of a vigorous school building campaign and financial support from state institutions, the number of schools in the years 1918-1940 increased from 1383 to 1628, encompassing all children with primary education becoming a reality. |
