After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Georgian people stood up for big challenges – We on the one hand had to consider our cultural heritage, as a basis for our identity and on the other hand, clearly and obviously show our belonging to the civilized world by presenting our unique culture. The civilized world has established a whole new value system and we must take this system, so that we cannot lose our own. Today's world offers to use the resources (regardless of their cultural attributes) that allow them to create a common culture of tomorrow. The common culture of tomorrow is unimaginable without understanding the identity problem. In the present work, we tried to identify the problem of identity based on Amin Maalouf’s opinions regarding the "vertical" and "horizontal" elements.
