Rezumat

This paper aims at achieving the following objectives: - Overlaying a previously made georeferencing of the actual surfaces with the past ones of the main forest areas; - Analysis of the evolution of the forest fund in the last two centuries in Roman region, Romania; - Soil sampling at the surface of the profiles in three situations: wooded land, forests without over 200 years old and agricultural areas resulting from deforestation in the last two centuries. - Interpreting results and correlating them with their current and past use. The precise georeferencing provided by the http://mapire.eu site has allowed the perfect overlapping of past forest areas over the present satellite imagery, which gave a unique opportunity to observe the evolution of the analyzed territory in terms of land use change (forestry with the agricultural one). Soil sampling from three different land categories as well as the evolution of the uses revealed that there are significant differences in the content of humus between the soils under the forest and the recently deforested compared to the old agricultural land. This hint can reveal (in the absence of maps) the occupied territories with the forests around of actual forest surface.
