Despite the massive efforts that have been made to conserve plant diversity across the world, it is becoming increasingly evident that the current strategies are not sufficiently effective to prevent the continuing decline in biodiversity. In situ conservation of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA) plays one of the central roles in this context. In the Republic of Moldova, the activities on in situ surveys/inventories of PGRFA are been carried out in three main scientific research institutions: the Botanical Garden (Institute), the Institute of Genetics, Plant Physiology and Plant Protection and the Practical Scientific Institute of Horticulture and Food Technology. It is obviously that is necessary to establish urgent and concrete actions to stop the loss of biodiversity and degradation through the sustainable use of biological resources, the reduction of human impacts on natural ecosystems and biodiversity components, the maintaining of natural habitats and the protection of rare and endangered species, at the national level and as well as international . |
