Rezumat

Thiosemicarbazones are currently well established as an important class of sulphur donor ligands particularly for transition metal ions. Thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes have received considerable attention in the last decades because of their antifungal, antibacterial, antiinflammatory, antiviral and antitumor activities [1, 2]. The cooper(II) complexes with 8formylquinoline thiosemicarbazone derivatives shows a high interest because that their biological activities are often enhanced on complexation [3].    In this study, two new heterocyclic compounds containing quinoline fragment were synthesized. The compounds were synthesized by complexation of copper(II) dichloroacetate with N4-(2,4,6trimethylphenyl)thiosemicarbazone 8-formylquinoline (HL1) and S-methyl-N4-(2,4,6trimethylphenyl)thiosemicarbazone 8-formylquinoline (HL2) in etanol. The ligands HL1 and HL2 is tridentate and coordinate to the metal ions by quinoline nitrogen, azomethine nitrogen and sulfur atom for 1 and quinoline nitrogen, azomethine nitrogen and thioamidic nitrogen for 2. The crystal structures for obtained compounds show a dinuclear unit for 1 and mononuclear unit for 2 (Fig. 1). Obtained compounds were tested for their antimicrobial activity. Compounds 1 and 2 show good antimicrobial activity against bacterial species.
