«The traditional Gagauz cake pazlama: etymologic notes». The unleavened cakes pazlama are one of the traditional Gagauz cake sorts that are baked on dry candent frypan. The Gagauz became acquainted with this bread type on the Balkans. The etymology of this cake’s name tells about it. The pazlama is the derivative of the lexeme pazi, which came, most likely into the Gagauz language (as well into other Balkan languages) from the Greek language. Gag., Turk. pazi has the same radical as the Greek μάζα, which, in its turn, is an ancient Jewish borrowing. If in Bulgarian and Turkish languages there are enough substantial differences in the word’s semantics, in the Gagauz language it is used only in its initial meaning. |
