Rezumat

TiN is a well-known hard coating that can be produced by PVD and CVD processes. It is possible to produce these coatings with different crystal orientation by tuning the deposition parameters. In this study, orientation dependent tribological behavior of TiN coatings that are produced with cathodic arc physical deposition method has been investigated. Coatings with [111] orientation exhibited a high coefficient of friction and wear under reciprocating wear test conditions. However, coatings produced with [220] orientation gave a low friction of coefficient and wear. These differences in the tribological behavior is interpreted and related to the character of the wear debris produced during wear testing.
