Water represent an essential element of life, constituting an important factor that balances ecosystems. The knowledge of water quality is strictly necessary because affects human and animal health, life cycle of vegetation and anthropic activities. In Bacau city groundwater abstraction is made in intake fronts or using pumps street. Water that comes from pumps street is used by the population from Bacau city constantly for household work or gardening and in fluctuating manner, as a source for own consumption when current water isn’t ensured by the Regional Water Company Bacau because of some damage. An active source of pollution to groundwater in this area is represent by the industry developed in Bacau city. This paper aims to identify qualitative status of groundwater captured by pumps street in Bacau city. In Bacau there are about 35 pumps of which 20 are functional. To determine groundwater quality in Bacau city, were taken samples from ten sources, physico-chemical parameters chosen for making determinations being represented by ammonium, magnesium, manganese, nitrite and total nitrogen. Admissible limit values were establishing by reference to the Law no. 458of 8 July 2002 regarding drinking water quality, republished, as amended. After performing of measurements, it was observed that the admissible limit values of water quality parameters were exceeded in all ten sampling points. It has been established so that any source of groundwater captured using hand pumps in Bacau is not recommended for human consumption. In this regard it is recommended to order measures by the competent authorities for the safety and health of the population.
