Our topic includes the design of novel porous Zn(II) and Cd(II) coordination polymers with the “wheel-and-axle” geometry and luminescent properties capable to be used as sensor materials responsive to the small guest inclusion [1-3]. Tuning the degree of porosity was achieved by: variation in the length and flexibility of the bridging ligand and by extension of the metals‟ coordination platform. The 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (bpp) was used as the elongated bridging ligand, and for the expected 1D polymer {[Cd(HCO2)2(NioxH2)(bpp)]·0.25H2O)}n (1) (NioxH2=1,2-cyclohexanedionedioxime) the comparison of the porosity‟s characteristics with the previously reported analogues has been carried out. To realize the second approach the tetrafluoroborate salts, M(BF4)2 were used to exclude the easy leaving anions from coordination to the metal centers. The new products include the mononuclear Cd(II) tris-dioxime of clathrochelate type [Cd(NioxH2)3]·2F (3) that encapsulates two fluoride anions, and the unique 1D polymer {[Zn(NioxH2)(NioxH)(bpe)]·F·DMF}n (4) (bpe=4,4'-bipyridine ethane; DMF=N,Ndimethylformamide) with the extended asymmetric dioxime-dioximate metal equatorial platform and encapsulation of fluoride anion. |
