In many developing countries higher education institutions are adapting to the rapidly changing markets and technologies, seeking to maintain and improve education quality, as well as to develop partnerships with their students. Massive open online courses are the resources that could potentially support many positive changes. The origin of this phenomenon, as well as the main trends in higher education, initiated by these courses, is considered in the paper. It is revealed that massive open online courses have been developing successfully since 2008, with the aim not only to provide more powerful learning opportunities, but also to improve the personalized learning experience for each student. The opportunities related to massive open online courses, from the perspective of the developing countries, are defined. |
