Nicolai Costenco is the writer who has been crucified for his national aspirations. The autobiographical element is strongly felt in everything he wrote: poems, poesy, the novel "Severograd", the memories "The Eagle Story", epistles "From the Darkness of the Dungeon. Letters from Gulag ". The literary critics have split. Some people accused him of writing "on the turn of the day" (Andrei Lupan), "neither a hero nor a traitor" (Petru Negura), "he surrendered to terror", "he is a defeated, but also a victor" Dumitru Crudu). Others believe that, depending on certain situations at that times, he had to act as he was dictated by the situation, the reason being the fear of repeating the fate of exile. Ana Bantos calls it "the most complex and distorted destiny of the Bessarabian creator". Vasile Malanetchi believes that "exile has not defeated him", and Mihai Cimpoi mentions: "Costenco is essential, dramatic and tragic". |
