Rezumat

Since when can we talk about Romanian? With the dissolution of the Empire, breaking into varieties that would become the Romanic languages today, the Latin language lost its unity after the IVth century. Thus, it can be assumed that the Latin of the Danubian provinces, which evolved in isolation from the Western Romanic world, began in the 5th century to pronounce its own features, developing independently of the other Romanic languages. For several consecutive centuries this process continued, in the 7th-8th centuries Latin gave way the place of the Romanic languages. This date is also accepted in the case of the other Romanic languages, where there are written testimonies (the first Romanic text, The Oaths of Strasbourg, was preceded by the appearance of Romanic forms in Latin texts). Until this time, there were the main changes of the Romanian language. Evidence is that the old Slavic elements, which begin to penetrate after the 8th century, do not suffer changes in the Latin  elements inherited in Romanian. Therefore, we should not make any hasty findings regarding the views that Romanian was formed after contact with the old Slavic. So the Latin, not Slavic, is the basis of our language. Romanian, occupying a special situation in the Romanic ensemble, is the most Latin one of the Romanic languages.
