Digital economy has always been a foundation in the development of a country. It makes an essential contribution to the creation of knowledge economy as a basic element of its infrastructure. The article analyses the specific development challenges facing Moldova’s information technology industry and identifies current tendencies in this area. Author’s analysis is based on the INSEAD, UN, UNCTAD reports and Moldovan statistics. The article describes a set of circumstances which reguires creation of the culture of fast and data-driven decision-making based on the processing of big data. The development of data-oriented culture reflects the neccesity to support the chain: „data-information-knowledge” by information security tools and techniques.
