Human trafficking has been called the slavery of 21st century. Although the fhenomenon, its partially known, its amplitude for which is made responsible of recently is not yet known correspondingly. Up to 4 million persons are registered annually to have been trafficked, most of them being women and children, albeit the traffickers target as well an increasing number of men and boys for exploitation for forced labour and other exploitation practices. Explotation includes forcing people into prostitution or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour of services, slavery or practices similar to slavery and servitude. For children, exploitation may also include forced prostitution, illicit international adoption, trafficking for early marriage, or recruitment as child soldiers, beggars, for sports ( such as child camel jockeys or football players), or for religious cults. Women are particularly at risk from sex trafficking. Criminals exploit lack of opportunities, promise good jobs or opportunities for study, and then force the victims to become prostitutes. Trafficking of children often involves exploitation of the parents’extreme poverty. Men are also at risk of being trafficked for unskilled work predominantly involving forced marriage, and domestic servitude. Governaments, international associations, and nongovernmental organizations have all tried to end human trafficking with various degrees of success. |
