Rezumat

The paper deals with the main characteristic features of Business English, and at the same time reveals those similarities and differences between Business English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Business English is an area of ESP that is relatively poorly researched, although in the last several decades it has attracted increasing interest and awareness. This course is taught at the ASEM since its foundation, and during the years the teaching approaches, length of courses, course content and methodology has changed as the practical use of language for our students is more important than the theoretical knowledge about the language. Great emphasis is put also on sense of purpose, clear communication and social aspects. The role of the teacher has changed, as it provides a chance to work with highly-motivated learners. In Business English there are highly specific goals and objectives which demand a tight control of the course plan and careful selection of materials and activities. Business English training encompass business knowledge and general language skills.
