Rezumat

The main goal of the present paper is to assess the effects of European Union integration upon the industrial development of new member states (hereafter NMS) which have become parts of the European community since 2004 and 2007, excluding Malta and Cyprus. The current paper will consider the EU financing dimension of integration and its interconnection with the industrial development and competitiveness indicators such as: high tech exports as a share of the total exports of manufactured goods; overall industrial performance and economic energy intensity. Consequently, there will be covered the following aspects of industrial competitiveness such as the availability of progressive and innovative capacities, overall industrial efficiency and, finally, degree of productivity of energy consumed in economic activities. As a result, there will be explicitly highlighted how directly are linked the EU integration of NMS and the countries’ industrial development and competitiveness.
