Teza

Sulfasalazine or 2-hydroxy-5-{{4-[(2-pyridinylamino)sulfonyl]phenyl}azo}benzoic acid (H3SAZ) is an anti-inflammatory agent commonly used in the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease and rheumatoid arthritis. Our survey of Cambridge Structural Database reveals only five metal compounds with H2SAZ- and HSAZ2-. In the reported examples the sulfasalazine ligand coordinates in monodentate mode through carboxyl oxygen atom and bidentate bridging mode via the carboxylic oxygen and pyridine nitrogen atoms. For searching new coordination compounds herein we have combined the Co(II)/Cd(II) metal centers with two types of ligands: sulfasalazine and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane (bpe). A AB-type salt (bpeH2)[CoCl4] (1) and a 2D layered compound {[Cd(HSAZ)(bpe)]·0.5(HCOOH)}n (2) have been prepared, and their crystal structures have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data for all obtained compounds are given in Table 1. The X-ray study established that the asymmetric unit of organic-inorganic compound 1 is constituted by one cation (bpeH2)2+ and tetrahedral anion of [CoCl4]2- linked together by strong N-H···Cl-H-bonds yielding a supramolecular 1D chain. The each Cd(II) cation in 2 coordinates two bridging bidentate HSAZ2- anions and two neutral bpe molecules. The extension of structural motif occurs via bridging HSAZ2- anions and bpe ligands and affords the 2D coordination polymer represents predictable porous coordination polymer with cumulative solvent uptake with 465.4 Å3 of the free volume (or 14.6% of total volume cell) after the guest molecules removal. Luminescent property of 2 is in progress.
