Rezumat | |||||
Sustainable development is one of the major challenges of the future, considering the projected growing of global demand facing supply uncertainties linked to unpredictable developments in economic, political, climatic and biological fields. Within this context, food security is a basic standing objective of socio-economic policies for rural areas and a key theme for the present CAP. Ensuring the sustainability of food supply for the population in all Member States involves the need to maintain food production potential of the EU and ensure a decent income earning. The research investigates social and economic segments vulnerable to current agrifood challenges and longterm risk factors to sustainable rural development in the EU Member States. The analysis method used relevant indicators related to the importance of rural areas, structural indicators of agriculture, education and employment in EU-27, with the aim of indicating contrasts and segments of risk for food security in Member States. The results have been produced by comparisons based on the available Eurostat statistics as they were provided by Farm Structure Survey, Agricultural Census and by FADN data. |
